CALIFORNIA, Mo. - California jumped out to an early lead, but the Lady Pintos faltered down the stretch as Battle came away with a 48-43 win in the third-place game at the California Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
California (9-5) led 20-9 after the first quarter, but Battle outscored the Pintos 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 29-27 lead into the break. The Lady Spartans took a 39-34 edge into the final period and held off California the rest of the way.
Sydney Deeken poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Pintos, who travel to Hallsville on Wednesday.
Maya Mouton scored 14 points to lead Battle.
