Jefferson City police on Thursday evening surrounded a building where a man reportedly had fired gunshots and refused to come out.
Officers responded around 6:42 p.m. to a report of shots fired from a residential apartment in the 1100 block of East McCarty Street. SWAT and crisis negotiation officers also were called to the scene, and police eventually made cell phone contact with the suspect inside the building.
Officers blocked off streets in the vicinity during the ensuing standoff, and an ambulance was placed on standby at a nearby parking lot as a precaution.
During phone contact, an officer was able to talk the man into surrendering. He walked outside and was taken into custody without incident around 8:50 p.m.
The man's identity was not immediately released. Police continue to investigate the case.
