JC man sentenced in attempted robbery

A Jefferson City man, who was taken into custody in connection with an attempted robbery in April 2013, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

According to police reports, Dareon Dashon Davis, 24, was charged with second-degree robbery and resisting arrest.

Officers were flagged down by several employees of Walmart on West Stadium Boulevard.

The employees said Davis, armed with a knife, tried to shoplift at their store and displayed the knife in a threatening manner to one of the store's employees.

After the employees said the man was last seen walking toward Menards, officers located Davis near the southeast entrance to Walmart by Stadium Plaza West.

Once Davis saw the officers, he ran behind Stadium Plaza West near Central Missouri Athletics, 748 W. Stadium Blvd.

One officer chased Davis on foot and another used a vehicle to cut him off on the private lot of CMA. He still was armed with a black handled, fixed-blade knife.

Officers held Davis at gunpoint, but he refused to drop the knife and lie on the ground. Instead, he paced back and forth saying, "I'm not going back to prison," while looking for an escape route.

Officers advised Davis if he did not drop the knife, he would be Tasered. Davis yelled go ahead, lifted his sweatshirt up.

An officer fired his Taser, striking Davis, which caused him to drop the knife and fall to the ground before he was taken into custody.

Officers were not harmed, and Davis had minor injuries caused by the Taser barbs.
