A Jefferson City man has been charged with a weekend business break-in.
Torry Upchurch, 21, of 209 Olive St., was charged with second-degree burglary and resisting arrest.
Jefferson City Police said the burglary occurred around 2:39 a.m. Sunday morning at JT Quick Shop, 301 Lafayette St.
Upchurch entered through a broken window on the south side of the building and was seen exiting from a window, and fled from officers a few minutes after the burglary was reported.
Upchurch was ordered to stop, but was able to elude the grasps of officers and fled south on Lafayette Street.
Officers chased Upchurch and finally caught him between some houses in the 700 block of East McCarty Street.
Officers searched Upchurch and found he had money taken from the business.
While being taken into custody Upchurch asked officers, “How did you know it was me?”
Court records show Upchurch was convicted of second-degree burglary in June 2010 and May 2011. He was also arrested for second-degree burglary in August 2010 and was on parole for two counts of second-degree burglary when he was arrested this weekend.
