Girls Basketball: Fatima Tournament

WESTPHALIA - Fatima, Blair Oaks and St. James were all winners Monday night at the Fatima Blue and Gold Tournament.

The Fatima Lady Comets raced out to a 27-4 lead after one quarter and rolled to a 62-35 lead in a round-robin game at the event.

The third-seeded Lady Comets pushed their lead against the sixth-seeded Lady Pirates to 43-11 at halftime and 50-21 after three quarters.

Morgan Brandt dropped in 15 points to pace Fatima, while Sammey Bunch had 13 and Kate Massman added 11.

Alison Mehmert scored 15 points to lead Chamois (5-5).

Fatima will take on Owensville in a game at 8 p.m. Wednesday that will decide the pool-play winner.

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons broke open a close game after halftime and topped St. Elizabeth 58-48.

The Lady Falcons (9-3) held a pair of one-point leads after the first two quarters - 10-9 after one period and 24-23 at halftime - before outscoring St. Elizabeth 23-16 in the third quarter and 11-9 in the fourth.

LeeAnn Polowy had 21 points to lead a balanced Blair Oaks effort. Lauren Viessman added 16 and Chelsi Emerson had 11.

Savannah Stiles tossed in a game-high 22 points for St. Elizabeth, while Allie Heckemeyer had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Blair Oaks, the fourth seed in the event, will play top-seeded St. James at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the winner's bracket semifinals. St. James, the second-ranked team in the state in Class 3, ripped Eugene 92-26 in a first-round game Monday.

St. Elizabeth (4-4) will play Eugene in a loser's bracket semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
