LU track women post wins

COLUMBIA - Nickeisha Beaumont, Daniele Newman and Ebony Rose all picked up individual wins and the 400-meter relay team took first as the Lincoln women's indoor track and field team posted 23 top-10 finishes Friday in the Missouri Opener at the Hearnes Center.

Two of Lincoln's four victories came in field events, including the long jump, where Beaumont improved upon her NCAA Division II-leading distance with a mark of 5.89 meters.

Newman, meanwhile, won the triple jump with a leap of 12.01 meters.

Jonelle Campbell finished second in the triple jump, while Shakeisha Miller took fourth in the long jump.

Rose led Lincoln to its other two wins. The freshman won the 800 meters with a time of 2:38.70 and joined forces with Willomena Williams, Nadia Harriott and Marcia Harrison to take the 400-meter relay in 3:57.40.

Cynthia Halbert placed second and Akeeba Rose was third in the 800. The duo joined Beaumont and Harriott to earn a second-place finish in the 400-meter relay.

Williams capped off her day by placing second in the 600. Lovan Palmer finished third in the event, while Tamara Keane placed fifth, and Derika Kelly came in sixth.

Harrison also had a pair of notable results, taking fourth in the 200 and third in the 400.

The Blue Tigers will be in action next weekend when they travel to Champaign, Ill., to compete in the Illini Classic.
