Fort Hays State rolls past LU women

HAYS, Kan. — The Fort Hays State women’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 98-54 win against Lincoln in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers (11-2, 5-2) claimed a 50-27 rebounding advantage and scored 22 second-chance points to hand the Blue Tigers (3-11, 0-7) their seventh straight loss.

Hunter Yoakum scored 18 points, while Jennifer Rosado added 10 and Nesha Wright chipped in eight to lead Lincoln, which was 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) from the field and just 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from behind the arc.

Fort Hays State put together a 13-0 run in a little over two minutes early in the game to take a 19-5 lead with 15:05 left in the first half and controlled the tempo the rest of the way.

Lincoln mangaged just seven points over the next seven and a half minutes, while the Tigers extended their lead to 26 with 7:36 left before the break.

Fort Hays State, which combined to block 11 shots, didn’t let up from there.

The Tigers took a 54-18 lead into halftime after limiting Lincoln to just 21 percent shooting in the first half.

Lincoln scored the first five points of the second half to cut its deficit to 31, but that’s as close as it would get.

Lincoln returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Missouri Southern.
