Blair Oaks gets past Centralia in district tournament opener

WARDSVILLE - The Blair Oaks Falcons used a balanced effort to win their first-round game in the Class 3 District 8 Tournament.

Blair Oaks, the third seed in the event, put four players in double figures while dropping sixth-seeded Centralia 72-60 on Tuesday night.

Kory Franks led the way with 17 points, while Logan Bax and Logan Gratz added 14 apiece. Seth Eskens chipped in with 11 points for the Falcons, who improved to 20-6.

Blair Oaks led 16-8 after one quarter, 34-21 at halftime and 47-35 after three periods.

The Falcons will play in the tournament semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Versailles.

Versailles, the second seed, advanced with a 59-50 win against seventh-seeded Southern Boone earlier Tuesday.

The Tigers were up 10-7 after one quarter, but Southern Boone came back to lead 25-21 at halftime. Versailles took a 41-40 lead into the final period.

Trey Woods pumped in a game-high 21 points for the Tigers, while Ryan Surface and Michael Allen added 11 each.

Gage Schupp and Gannon Mueller had 13 points apiece for the Eagles.
