Tuesday, February 25, 2014
Former St. Elizabeth standout and current Missouri State pitcher Erin Struemph was named this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Struemph, a freshman, has been lights-out in the circle for the Bears, putting together her most impressive performances of the season at the Blues City Classic. Struemph went 2-0 and collected her first career save while compiling a 0.45 ERA to earn a spot on the all-tournament first team.
Struemph leads the MVC in ERA (1.26), opponent’s batting average (.208), and is tied atop the league with five wins. The 6-foot right-hander has struck out at least one batter in nine out of 10 innings and is the only pitcher in the MVC to throw two seven-inning compete-game shutouts.
