Eighth-grade boy held for taking BB gun on bus

A Thomas Jefferson Middle School eighth-grader was taken into custody by the Jefferson City police this afternoon after he was found in possession of a BB pistol on Bus 4. All students on the bus are safe.

The student had the pistol on the bus and was showing it to other students. The bus driver was told by at least one bus rider that a student had the pistol. The driver contacted First Student Transportation and police were called. The bus stopped near Tom Lee Drive, and students were asked to exit the bus. Police were able to determine which student had the weapon.

"The matter is still under investigation, but we wanted families to know of the situation," public schools spokesman David Luther said. "This is a serious reminder that parents and schools must work together to help children understand the ramifications of bringing any kind of weapon, even a toy, on to school grounds."
