Kehoe builds big campaign warchest

Missouri Sen. Mike Kehoe added nearly $100,000 to his campaign funds during the last quarter of 2013, raising his total to nearly a half million.

The campaign raised $127,684, including $2,474 in in-kind contributions. It spent $26,718, for a net gain of $98,492. His money on hand at the end of the year was $485.071.

Kehoe, a Jefferson City Republican, is in the last year of his first four-year term. He has announced he will seek re-election, and no one else has publicly said they'll seek the job. Filing starts Tuesday.

He said he hasn't heard of any potential challengers to his Senate seat. "We haven't heard of anybody, but we're trying to be ready in case," he said.

Fundraising hasn't gotten much easier or harder in the three years he's been in office, he said.

"It's about the same. I don't go over-the-top aggressive on fundraising," he said, adding that he tries to have grassroots fundraisers so that as many constituents in his district as possible can participate, if they want.

He also acknowledges he has many contributions from the automobile industry, an industry that he worked in for 35 years. As a senator, he said he's worked with people in that industry, and small business in general, from throughout Missouri.

Kehoe's expenses include a $5,001 donation to the Missouri Transportation PAC, $1,000 donation to MO State Council of Firefighters PAC and $4,608.94 to Capitol Consulting. Some of his expenses were related to his "Flapjack Tour" tour events in which he chatted with his constituents over pancakes.
