Kempker wins at recent National Livestock show

EUGENE, Mo. - The only showman from Missouri, Trent Kempker won the "Reserve Grand Champion Lightweight Junior Market Goat" and "Senior Showman" at the recent National Western Livestock Show in Denver, Colo.

The Cole County R-5 High School senior was one of six showmen in the final drive. He competed against 180 goats from 11 states.

He also is competing for the "Goat Premier Exhibitor," which offers a $1,000 scholarship to one of the top six individuals of the junior market goat show. He took a quiz on the goat industry, delivered a speech on "What affect does weather/natural disasters have on the livestock industry, specifically related to the market goat industry," and was interviewed by a panel of judges.

Kempker is the son of Dan and Diana Kempker and is the grandson of Kathryn Kempker, Eugene, and Jerry and Arlene Binkley.

He is a member of the Eugene FFA Chapter and the Eager Elves 4-H Club.
