Two lawmen raising funds for Special Olympics

Jefferson City Police Sgt. Randy Werner and Cole County Sheriff's Department Capt. John Wheeler once again will be taking to the top of the DoubleTree Hotel in Jefferson City to raise money for Special Olympics.

They will start at 6 a.m. today and will stay on top of the hotel until noon Wednesday.

Cops on Top raises awareness and funding for Special Olympics through the Law Enforcement Torch Run program.

Werner and Wheeler are especially out to raise awareness of the Special Olympics Missouri signature event, the Polar Plunge, being held Saturday in Osage Beach.

Werner is also taking part in the Super Plunge that begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday; he and 11 other Super Plungers will plunge 24 times in 24 hours.

All proceeds stay in the Central Missouri area and benefit more than 2,900 athletes.

You can make donations by dropping by the DoubleTree Hotel.
