Woes on offense for LU baseball

ROLLA -The Lincoln baseball team managed just one big inning of offense while dropping both halves of a season-opening doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Tigers scored five of their seven runs of the day in the top of the first inning in the second game, but couldn't do much else in 6-1 and 11-6 losses.

In the lidlifter, Lincoln got its only run in the last inning and managed just three hits. In that run-scoring seventh frame, Logan Smith reached on an error, went to second on a single by Craig Jones and scored on another error. The Miners had four errors overall in the game.

The Miners got four runs in the first and two in the sixth to account for all of their scoring.

Jones had two of Lincoln's three hits in the contest.

Joe Jungmeyer started and took the loss for Lincoln. He gave up four earned runs on two hits and five walks in four innings. He also struck out four. Ian Fuemmeler pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Lincoln scored all of its runs in the top of the first on six hits, but managed just three hits the rest of the way. In that first frame, James Earleywine had an RBI double, Smith had a two-run single and Kaleb Davis and Christian Bunch had RBI singles.

Missouri S&T, meanwhile, scored in every inning it went to the plate, getting three in the first, two in the second, one in the third and fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Aaron Bedsworth, a former New Bloomfield Wildcat, started on the mound for the Miners but did not factor into the decision. He pitched the first three innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits with one walk.

Nate Luckenhoff took the loss for the Blue Tigers, working the first three innings. He allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out two.

Gatlin Wiggans followed and pitched two innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Zach York pitched the final frame, giving up an earned run on two hits and one walk. He had a pair of strikeouts.

Davis and Bunch ended up with two hits and one RBI apiece. Nick Lovell, with a pair of hits, was the only other Blue Tiger with multiple hits in the game.
