Struemph pitches Lady Bears to title

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Missouri State Lady Bears got a commanding game from Erin Struemph and posted a 3-0 win against Texas-Arlington in Sunday's championship game of the UTA Maverick Invitational.

Struemph (St. Elizabeth High School) twirled her first career shutout, striking out eight while scattering seven hits. She did not allow a walk.

On Friday, the Lady Bears opened the event with a 13-4 win against the host school in six innings.

Struemph came on to get the final two outs by strikeout to quell a fifth-inning rally by the Mavericks. She then struck out two of the three batters she faced in the final inning of play.

Struemph then threw a complete-game three-hitter later in the day as Missouri State beat Central Michigan 6-3. She gave up three earned runs while walking two and striking out nine.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears beat South Dakota State twice, posting wins by 7-1 and 2-0 scores.

Missouri State is now 6-2 on the season.
