Lady Falcons claim share of Tri-County Conference title

WARDSVILLE - The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons have been on a late-season roll.

They would like to keep it that way.

Blair Oaks jumped out to an early lead and LeeAnn Polowy poured in a game-high 23 points as the Lady Falcons cruised to a 69-26 win against Versailles in a Tri-County Conference matchup on Monday night.

"We want to keep doing what we've been doing the last two weeks - it's been pretty good," Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernskoetter said. "We just need to keep working."

The victory gives Blair Oaks (16-7, 6-0) at least a share of the conference championship, but the Lady Falcons could win it outright if they take care of business Thursday at California, which has one conference loss.

"It's going to be a good battle for us," Bernskoetter said. "We want to stay sharp and do what we have to do and just carry that on from now on. It's the end of the season, it's time to keep playing well every night."

Polowy scored 16 first-quarter points to give Blair Oaks a 22-2 lead and the Lady Falcons didn't look back. The senior guard knocked down three treys and was 8-of-8 from the free-throw line to lead Blair Oaks.

Lauren Viessman added nine points while Sara Jones chipped in with eight to help pace the Lady Falcons, who claimed a 72-29 win Dec. 6 against the Lady Tigers (3-19).

"We pressed to get something going early," Bernskoetter said. "Sometimes these (games) are hard because you know you already beat this team earlier (in the season). You try to get where you're not looking past them."

The Lady Falcons extended their lead to 43-9 at halftime and took a 60-24 advantage entering the final period.

The Blair Oaks starters played the majority of their minutes in the first and third quarters, while 15 total athletes found playing time for the Lady Falcons.

"We were working on attacking certain places of their zone," Bernskoetter said. "We did a nice job getting it inside and out.

"We got some other girls in there too, which is good. They've put in a lot of time and effort. It was good to get them in there and get them some experience."

The Lady Falcons will host Harrisburg at 7:30 p.m. today for Senior Night. Blair Oaks claimed a 72-58 win earlier this month against the Lady Bulldogs in the fifth-place game of the Southern Boone Classic.

While Bernskoetter's group is taking it one game at a time, the Lady Falcons hope to keep their momentum flowing into Thursday's matchup against the Lady Pintos.

And then there's the Class 3 District 8 Tournament, which kicks off Monday at Blair Oaks.

The Lady Falcons are the No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded Hallsville at 9 p.m. Monday.

"I think with it being on our floor, it's not to say we can't come in here and win those three games next week, but we'll have to play well to do that," Bernskoetter said. "We're trying to become constant with that - everyone picking up their games and doing their part."
