Sunday, February 16, 2014
Starting Monday, crews from Ameren Missouri will be working in the 4900 to 5200 blocks of Business 50 West at Apache Flats as the first step of the improvement project for the road takes place.
They’ll be working to relocate power lines, and most of the work will be off the north side of the road.
Periodic closures of the westbound lane will be necessary to allow room for equipment.
Traffic control signaling devices will be in place, and traffic will be shifted in other lanes to get vehicles through the work zones.
Cole County Public Works officials said they do not expect any delays in traffic due to this work. The work should be completed in two to three weeks.
Don Schnieders Excavating plans to start work on the road improvements around March 3. Schnieders was the low bidder for the project at $3,498,955.21.
The project will rebuild the road, add curbs and gutter, storm water drainage and a sidewalk along the south side of the road from Country Club Drive west to past South Binder Lake and Babe Ruth drives.
The county also has an agreement with Jefferson City’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department to build a greenway trail on the north side, from South Binder Lake Road east to Country Club Drive, with the city agency paying $76,000 for the extra work.
Except for the greenway work on the north side, the project is to be finished by Dec. 15.
Rainbow Drive will be the main detour during the work.
There are provisions in the contract to maintain access to all the property owners and all the businesses.
