Officials continue to investigate hospital fire

St. Mary's Health Center was back to normal operations Friday after a fire Thursday night.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation by the fire department and state fire marshal's office.

Firefighters responded shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the hospital at 100 St. Mary's Medical Plaza, where a fire broke out on the third level.

The fire was extinguished shortly after firefighters arrived, but the resulting smoke had to be cleared from the building, and nearby patients were moved away from the vicinity of the fire.

An automatic fire alarm alerted the department, plus hospital staff called 911 to confirm the validity of the alarm. Fire officials said the fire occurred in a room in the "Cardiac Stepdown" area.

Firefighters reported around 12:30 a.m. Friday that the situation was under control. No injuries were reported.
