Driver loses control on ice, strikes Mo. officer

WARRENTON, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri police officer sustains moderate injuries after being hit by a sliding pickup truck while investigating an earlier crash on an icy Interstate 70.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/MWImuB) reports 32-year-old Warrenton police officer Charles Lancey was outside his patrol car when he was struck by the truck about 3 p.m. Friday near Missouri Highway 47.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman says Lancey was gathering information on a Jeep that had been seriously damaged when it hit a concrete barrier.

The pickup struck the Jeep and Lancey, who was standing behind the vehicle.

The 19-year-old O'Fallon man whose pickup struck Lancey lost control of his vehicle on the icy highway.
