Two charged in burglary, assault

Two St. Louis-area residents were taken into custody Monday in connection with a burglary that occurred this past weekend in Jefferson City.

Police reports show Charles Lowry, 43, and Kristie Meeks, 37, are facing first-degree burglary and second-degree assault charges.

The burglary occurred around 3:30 p.m. this past Saturday in the 300 block of Lafayette Street.

Four people in an apartment stated they were assaulted after a suspect broke in the door in an attempted robbery.

Meeks, who was known to the victims, had come to the residence about 15 minutes prior to the attempted robbery and had started watching a movie with the residents.

When Lowry came through the door he began to assault the victims with the assistance of Meeks.

Lowry and Meeks hit the victims and threatened them, demanding money, but left with nothing and fled the area.

Lowry was armed with a knife, but never used it.

It was later learned that while Meeks was watching the movie with the victims, she was texting Lowry to plan the robbery attempt.
