Blair Oaks, Fatima capture victories at Southern Boone Tournament

ASHLAND - Lauren Viessman wasn't going to let the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons lose.

Viessman hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send the game to overtime on her way to 19 points to lead third-seeded Blair Oaks to a 52-49 victory against seventh-seeded Father Tolton in a loser's bracket semifinal Thursday night in the Southern Boone Classic.

Down 43-40 with less than a second remaining, Blair Oaks set up an inbounds play near half court. The Lady Falcons found Viessman in the corner, and the guard drilled the 3 send the game into the extra session.

Blair Oaks opened up an 11-6 lead after one quarter, extended the advantage to 26-18 at halftime and took a 35-26 edge into the final period. Father Tolton used a 17-8 advantage in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.

LeeAnn Polowy added 10 points for the Lady Falcons.

Hope Wright paced Tolton with 16 points.

Blair Oaks (13-7) plays for fifth place Saturday against the Harrisburg-Linn winner.

In other tournament action Thursday, top-seeded Fatima rallied for a 51-42 win against No. 5 Southern Boone.

Southern Boone led 13-3 after one quarter, but the Lady Comets outscored the Lady Eagles 48-29 the rest of the way. Southern Boone's led dipped to 22-18 at halftime and Fatima took a 38-34 lead after three periods.

Morgan Brandt pumped in 24 points to lead Fatima (13-5) to the win.

The Lady Comets will play second-seeded North Callaway, a 39-36 winnner against seventh-seeded Father Tolton on Thursday, for the championship at 6 p.m. Saturday.
