Learfield Sports acquires NJ company

Jefferson City's Learfield Sports is expanding once again.

Company officials announced Tuesday they had acquired Nelligan Sports Marketing.

This New Jersey-based company does marketing for 41 colleges across the country, including Missouri State University in Springfield.

Right now, Learfield serves 56 universities.

"We're already a national company with properties from coast to coast," said Greg Brown, Learfield president and CEO. "This will strengthen our position in the sports marketing industry, and we look to keep expanding."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the business will operate under the name of Learfield Sports.

The move also means more employees.

The Nelligan acquisition adds 85 full-time employees to Learfield's current roster of 350 full-time staff.

The Jefferson City Learfield offices are best known for its radio programming operations, which deliver nearly 17,000 hours of college sports programming to more than 1,100 radio stations across the country.
