Parkway South 42, Helias 40

WASHINGTON - The Helias girls basketball team fell a little short.

The Lady Crusaders' last-second 3-point attempt at the end of overtime rimmed out as Parkway South held on to claim a 42-40 win against Helias in the first round of the St. Francis Borgia Tournament on Monday night.

Parkway South jumped out to a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Crusaders rallied to tie the game at 15 going into the break. The teams remained tied after the third and fourth quarters, but the Lady Patriots outscored Helias 6-4 in the extra period to pull out the win.

Mai Nienhueser scored 12 points, while Kelsi Bernskoetter finished with 11 to help lead the Lady Crusaders, who were 10-of-21 from the free-throw line.

Helias (11-7) will resume play in the tournament Wednesday.
