Fatima girls roll to win

ASHLAND - The Fatima Lady Comets limited Linn to two first-half points before rolling to a 56-9 win in the first round of the Southern Boone Tournament on Monday night.

Fatima led 25-0 after the first quarter, 41-2 at halftime, and took a 55-6 advantage into the final period.

Leah Kesel scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Lady Comets (12-5), who will face Southern Boone in a semifinal game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In other action at the tournament, Hallsville, North Callaway and Southern Boone scored wins.

The sixth-seeded Hallsville Lady Indians scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to hold off third-seeded Blair Oaks for a 52-38 win.

Hallsville led 10-9 after the first quarter and took a 20-12 lead into halftime, but Blair Oaks outscored the Lady Indians 14-9 in the third to cut its deficit to 29-26 going into the the fourth quarter. Hallsville outscored the Lady Falcons 23-12 in the final period to pull out the win.

LeeAnn Polowy scored 21 points to lead the Lady Falcons (11-7).

Second-seeded North Callaway edged seventh-seeeded Father Tolton 39-36, while fifth-seeded Southern Boone ripped fourth-seeded Harrisburg 59-29.

The tournament resumes Wednesday. Blair Oaks and Father Tolton meet at 4:30 p.m. and Linn will play Harrisburg at 9 p.m., both of them loser's bracket contests.

In the winner's bracket, Fatima and Southern Boone will play at 6 p.m., followed by North Callaway and Hallsville at 7:30 p.m.
