Beta Sigma Phi sponsors 2014 Valentine Queen Brunch

Jefferson City Beta Sigma Phi City Council is sponsoring the annual Valentine's Queen's Brunch on Saturday in the Hawthorn Community Room. Six chapters are represented with queen candidates.

The queen candidates are:

Elizabeth Dunn, Xi Chi

Dunn is a life-long resident of Jefferson City and worked in the banking industry for 44 years, serving as vice president at Central Bank. She is a volunteer with American Cancer Society and is a member of St. Martins Church. Her husband is Stephen Dunn, and they have a daughter and a grandchild.

Gayla Schanbacher, Preceptor Epsilon Kappa

Schanbacher has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for one year. She is a graduate of Helias Catholic High School and received a bachelor's of fine arts degree in interior design from University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Schanbacher has worked as an interior designer for 38 years and is currently employed by Mid-City Lumber. She is a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and Homebuilders Association. She serves as a volunteer with Buddy Food Pack at Missouri Food Bank. She and her husband, Sid, have five children and four grandchildren.

Penny Foree Gottschalk, Preceptor Lambda Iota

Gottschalk grew up in Farber, attended high school in Vandalia and received a degree in early childhood from Truman State University. Gottschalk worked at Small World Day Care Center as director and at Montessori School as a teacher. Gottschalk worked for the Department of Agriculture for 30 years. She and her husband, Alan, have two daughters and one grandchild.

Becky Ambrose, Preceptor Lambda Epsilon

Ambrose has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1977 and has served in every office and currently serves as recording secretary of her chapter. She received a bachelor's of science degree in dental hygiene from University of Missouri-Kansas City. She met her husband, Bill, while they were both in school and practiced dental hygiene in his practice from 1977-2010, when they both retired. Ambrose is a member of First United Methodist Church, past president of Chapter HM, P.E.O. and the Zonta Club. She is also a member of Century Study Club, Cole County Historical Society and Jefferson City Area Dental, Shoe and Eye Board.

Sherry Poepsel, Tau Master

Poepsel joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1963 and has served in many positions in the past 50 years. She and her husband, John, have four children, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Poepsel spent many years in various aspects of the travel industry beginning with O'Hara Travel in 1968. She earned a master's and doctorate degree in divinity and has served as a hospital and hospice chaplain. Poepsel is a graduate of Helias Catholic High School.

Lila Herauf, Beta Mu Zeta

Herauf has lived in Jefferson City for three years after a move from Maryville. She is a retired early childhood educator. Herauf and her husband have three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She did scrapbooks for Beta Mu Master that took second place at the 2012 convention.
