JCPD looking for suspect after high speed pursuit

Jefferson City police are searching for a suspect in a high speed chase that occurred early Tuesday morning.

According to police reports, just after 12:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a routine traffic violation near the intersection of Hutton Lane and Louis Circle.

The driver of the vehicle ignored the officer's emergency lights and a pursuit on Hutton Lane began.

The pursuit continued on Hutton Lane to Expressview, then on U.S. 50 Eastbound in the wrong lanes of traffic until the driver lost control after striking a deer and crashed.

The driver then fled on foot from the area, leaving the two passengers in the vehicle who were treated for minor injuries.

Investigators were unable to locate the driver and an investigation as to his identity is ongoing at this time.

The driver is facing charges of careless and imprudent driving, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest and other traffic related charges.
