Father Tolton finishes third

With the game on the line, it was the time to shine for the Father Tolton Trailblazers.

Just 13 seconds after Monday's third-place game in the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic got tied for the seventh and final time at 48, the Trailblazers took control.

A layup by Josh Boyer kicked off a 12-0 fourth-quarter spurt that included scoring by four different players to make it 60-48.

The Raytown South Cardinals stopped the run right after that, and Tolton's Michael Porter Jr. stopped everyone's breathing immediately after that.

The sophomore sensation took off from just inside the foul line on a fast break and came up with a soaring dunk that energized the crowd.

It was a fitting play for a player who racked up a game-high 26 points as Tolton claimed a 64-52 win.

Boyer chipped in with 10 points for the Trailblazers, who improved to 9-1. Jontay Porter led Tolton with nine rebounds.

Raytown South, which fell to 6-3, got a massive effort from Tyrone Gibbs, who racked up 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Bryan Trimble scored a team-high 18 points.

Tolton led 15-13 after one quarter, 29-22 at halftime and 42-38 after three quarters.
