Tulsa Union reaches Great 8 title game

Tulsa Union (Okla.) earned a spot in the championship game of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic by claiming a 62-53 win Sunday against Raytown South in a winner's bracket game at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Union will take on Helias at 7 p.m. today for the title.

Robert Ellis poured in a game-high 22 points to lead three Union players in double figures. Nile Felton finished with 14 and Ethan Chargois added 12.

Tyrone Gibbs scored 18 points, while Bryan Trimble added 14 to lead Raytown South, which will play Father Tolton at 5:30 p.m. today in the third-place game.

Union led 21-14 after the first quarter and 31-25 at halftime, before outscoring the Cardinals 18-12 in the third quarter to take a 49-37 advantage into the final period.

Union was 21-of-40 from the field and 15-of-24 from the free-throw line. Raytown South finished 18-of-45 from the field and 12-of-16 from the charity stripe while claiming a 28-24 rebounding advantage.
