Dear Editor:
The one thing that seems to get politicians elected is campaigning against abortion, as in the case of Rep. Rick Brattin and HB131. Does it make the politician and the voter feel righteous? How many of these same people have had sex out of wedlock? How many have lied, cheated on their taxes, etc.? I'm betting quite a few.
Why is it that men want all their freedoms, including the right to have casual sex, but they do not want women to have the same freedoms. Rep. Brattin would have a woman get "permission" from a man who probably is not willing to marry her let alone support a child, and more than likely would not even be around to even get permission. If a woman has to get permission, then we'd better have a law that requires every man to have a DNA test on the books so that the father can be determined! Then when the father is determined, make him go to work and pay to support that child instead of the taxpayers.
This really sounds more like a male dominance bill to me. It also seems that some people are trying to force certain religious beliefs on everyone else.
Most sexual predators/offenders are men, and it is difficult to prove rape, let alone coercion. It would be even more criminal for a woman to have to ask permission from the man who may have taken advantage of, or in some way forced her to have sex even though a crime was not proven in a court of law.
Ladies, if you value your freedoms, you should not support this type of bill. There are already enough restrictions on women's health. However, if you want to get "permission" from men, that is your business.
As for myself, I have always had to provide for myself. I would not ask permission from anyone to do what I felt was right and best for me or my family.
HB131 is a repressive bill. If this were to pass, what would be next? Would women have to walk 20 paces behind their husbands?!
