ST. LOUIS (AP) - Last year, Alec Ogletree ended James Laurinaitis' four-year run as the St. Louis Rams' leading tackler. Of course, he'd like to lead again.
"I definitely take pride in it," Ogletree said after practice Wednesday. "That was definitely one of my goals coming in, and right now I'm leading. We'll see how it unfolds."
The linebackers are 1-2 again heading into the finale at Seattle. Ogletree had 10 tackles last week against the Giants and leads by one over Laurinaitis.
As he did last year, Laurinaitis professes not to care about the tackle honorarium.
"Just want to win, man," he said. "If I get two tackles on Sunday and we fly out of there with a win, that would be great.
"'Tree can have it, I just want to win a game and finish the right way."
Ogletree had the one tackle everyone at the Giants game can't forget. He drove Odell Beckham Jr. out of bounds and kept on driving, inciting a brawl that led to three player ejections.
"We're just out there playing football, things just happened, but it's over," Ogletree said. "You get riled up, but after that it calms itself down."
Coach Jeff Fisher said earlier in the week he didn't expect any Rams to be fined, and the team hadn't heard from the NFL late Wednesday afternoon. That includes defensive end William Hayes, who threw a punch that didn't land in retaliation for having his helmet ripped off.
Ogletree said he hasn't been notified by the NFL of a fine.
"I haven't and I hope I don't," Ogletree said with a chuckle. "I'm not looking to hear from them."
Two New York players said six Giants were fined a total of $72,400, including $16,000 to defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins for driving Rams quarterback Shaun Hill into the ground after an incomplete pass. Wide receiver Preston Parker and defensive end Damontre Moore were fined $15,000 apiece for their part in the brawl.
Beckham was fined $10,000 for kicking at Ogletree after being thrown down and kicker Josh Brown was fined $8,200 for making a kicking motion at a Rams player.
Jenkins and Brown discussed the fines Wednesday.
Laurinaitis has started every game at middle linebacker since getting drafted in the second round in 2009. He became just the second rookie in franchise history to finish first in tackles. Ogletree, a first-round pick last year, is the third rookie to do it.
"'Tree, especially the last four to six weeks, has been playing as good as any linebacker in the league, I think," Fisher said. "And he's only going to continue to get better."
This year, Laurinaitis' durability has been tested by a preseason ankle injury that's never quite healed.
Ogletree has 158 tackles, three more than he had last season, along with two interceptions and four forced fumbles. Laurinaitis calls the signals and has 157 tackles, 3 1-2 sacks for the second straight year, and two fumble recoveries.
Both were in on all 71 defensive snaps last week, along with safeties Rodney McLeod and T.J. McDonald.
"Both of them have been very productive. They've been on the field, too," Fisher said.
In the finale, both will be chasing down Russell Wilson. Laurinaitis said Wilson was the "most dynamic dual threat quarterback in the league."
"He has such control over the game that even when plays break down it's not somebody scrambling or panicking," Laurinaitis said. "It's so rehearsed and so well done, it's almost like he makes the perfect decisions at the right moments."
NOTES: The Rams practiced in drizzling rain with temperatures in the mid-30s. Fisher said the forecast calls for similar weather in Seattle "so it was good to get outside." ... The team adjusted its practice schedule this week, working out Tuesday and giving players Christmas off. Fisher discussed the situation with team captains "and obviously they're not going to say no."
