2 people shot in JC

The investigation into the shooting of two men Monday afternoon in Jefferson City is continuing.

According to police reports, at about 2:40 p.m., the Jefferson City Police Department's 9-1-1 Center began receiving calls of a shooting that occurred in the 600 block of School Street.

Officers responded to the area and located a large gathering of individuals, which included two men who had been shot.

Both men suffered gunshot wounds to their legs.

The victims were transported to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment and officers began interviewing witnesses and other area residents for information as to what took place.

The initial investigation revealed that a vehicle described as a silver or gray Pontiac Grand Prix drove down School Street, which is a dead end street, turned around and came back.

As it passed by a residence in the 600 block, a person or persons in the car began shooting at the victims who were in front of the residence, striking the two men.

The vehicle and its occupants fled the area after the shooting.

Authorities said there is reason to believe this is not a random incident and that the victims and the shooter or shooters knew each other.

During the investigation, an officer noticed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description going north on U.S. 63 and leaving the city limits. With the assistance of other police personnel, the vehicle was stopped near the Boone County line.

Police did not say how many persons were inside the vehicle, but they were all taken into custody for further investigation.

As of Monday evening, names of the victims were not released nor was there any further information on those taken into custody for the investigation into this incident.
