ABC 17 News wins November ratings race

For the first time in the history of the television station, KMIZ won the 5-7 a.m. news, 5 p.m. news, 6 p.m. news, 9 p.m. news and 10 p.m. news in the key adult demographic of ages 25-54, and in household rating and share, according to the recently released November 2014 Nielsen ratings for the Columbia/Jefferson City market.

"We have built an incredible team at KMIZ-TV both in front of and behind the camera; this is a testament to the hard work they do every day," said Gene Steinberg, general manager of KMIZ, in a news release.

Over the past five years, KMIZ has added 12 1/2 hours of local news a week on the station. The station, which brands itself as ABC17, also broadcasts newscasts on its sister station KQFX.

"I'm proud of the work our staff does. People expect us to deliver the weather and news they value in their day-to-day lives, and I'm grateful they trust us with this important task," said Curtis Varns, KMIZ news director.

KMIZ is owned by News-Press & Gazette Company headquartered in St. Joseph, Mo., and owns and operates television and radio stations in 10 Midwestern and Western markets including stations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Missouri, Oregon and Texas; owns and publishes 14 daily, weekly and monthly newspapers in Missouri and Kansas; as well as operating two data storage facilities in Missouri.
