Lincoln men fall to Washburn

The Lincoln men's basketball team played Washburn to a virtual standstill in the second half Thursday night, but by that point the game was well out of reach.

Washburn raced out to a 34-17 halftime lead at Jason Gym and the Ichabods took the second half by a 39-38 margin to win 73-55.

Lincoln shot a scorching 68 percent in the second half (15-of-22), but were doomed by a 39-percent effort (7-of-18) in the opening half.

So even though the Blue Tigers outshot the Ichabods 55 percent to 49, Washburn won because it had just six turnovers to Lincoln's 14. The Ichabods also won the rebounding battle 30-18, with half of their boards coming on the offensive end.

Neither team went to the free-throw line much, as the Ichabods made 8-of-10 and the Blue Tigers were 5-of-10.

Joshua Buie with 17 points and Victor Scott with 12 were the only Lincoln players in double digits.

Washburn's Kyle Wiggins hit 12-of-20 shots, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range, to lead all players with 31 points. Alex North and Algie Key had 13 apiece.

Washburn improved to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Lincoln, which dropped to 4-8 and 1-2, will host Nebraska-Kearney at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
