CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Ruth Hamblin had 17 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 16 Oregon State beat No. 6 North Carolina 70-55 on Tuesday night.

Jamie Weisner added 14 points for the Beavers, who improved to 8-0 for the first time in program history.

Sydney Wiese had 13 points as the Beavers recorded their first victory over a top-10 opponent since 1995.

Allisha Gray led North Carolina (9-1) with 20 points.

Stephanie Mavunga had 14 points for the Tar Heels, who shot a season-low 28 percent from the floor and made 1 of 14 3-point attempts.

The game featured two of the 14 remaining unbeaten teams in Division I entering the day.

The Beavers broke an early tie with a 9-2 spurt and never looked back. Weisner led the charge with a 3-pointer followed by two layups as Oregon State took an 18-11 lead midway through the first half.

NO. 11 VOLUNTEERS 54, SHOCKERS 51

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Cierra Burdick scored 10 points and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds as No. 11 Tennessee held off Wichita State to earn its fourth straight victory.

Wichita State (6-3) rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit and cut Tennessee's lead to 52-51 on Kelsey Jacobs' 3-pointer with 23.3 seconds remaining. Ariel Massengale sank two free throws to make it 54-51 with 5.1 seconds left.

The Shockers' desperation shot from about midcourt hit the right corner of the backboard as the buzzer sounded.

Isabelle Harrison had 14 points and nine rebounds for Tennessee (8-2). Alexa Middleton added 10 points.

Alex Harden scored 19 points and Alie Decker added 17 for Wichita State.

The game marked a reunion of sorts for Wichita State head coach Jody Adams and assistant Bridgette Gordon, who both played on national championship teams for the Lady Vols. Tennessee has retired Gordon's No. 30 jersey.

NO. 18 SPARTANS 77, BRAVES 41

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Aerial Powers had 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists and No. 18 Michigan State dominated Alcorn State.

Tori Jankoska chipped in 17 points and Becca Mills had 10 with seven boards for the Spartans (7-2), who shot 48 percent from the field. Powers was 6 of 8 from the floor, 11 of 13 from the free-throw line and had four steals.

Alcorn State (1-6) was smothered by Michigan State, being held to 14-of-58 shooting (24.1 percent) with 21 turnovers. Norianna Haynes led the Braves with 16 points, but no other player had more than six.

The Spartans raced out to a 22-3 lead early as Powers had two jumpers and two layups. Alcorn State climbed right back however, cutting the deficit to just eight at halftime.

Michigan State opened the second half with a 17-5 run and pushed its lead to 30 with 9:16 left.

NO. 19 ORANGE 70, GOLDEN GRIFFINS 37

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Alexis Peterson scored 18 points and No. 19 Syracuse crushed in-state opponent Canisius.

Peterson was 6 of 10 from the floor, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Brianna Butler had 15 points despite going 2 of 10 on 3-pointers and Cornelia Fondren added 10 points and nine rebounds. The Orange (8-1) outrebounded their neighbors two hours to the west by a 67-31 margin.

Syracuse raced out to a 25-5 lead en route to building a 40-15 halftime advantage behind 13 points from Peterson. Canisius was just 6 of 24 in the half and committed 11 turnovers.

Canisius (4-5) was led by Crystal Porter's 12 points. She added three assists and two blocked shots. The Golden Griffins were just 2 of 13 on 3-pointers and 2 of 7 from the line.
