Resale shop Calvary's Gift will start the new year at a new location, moving about a block from its current Jefferson City store.

The new Calvary's Gift at 722 Jefferson St. (former location of Victoria's Bridal & Formal Wear Boutique, which closed in October) will offer expanded space for the thrift store, which now operates out of the 713 Washington St. building owned by Central United Church of Christ.

"We've really outgrown our space here," said Becky Engelbrecht, volunteer who came up with the idea for the resale shop. "We wanted to continue in this area. We feel like we have a mission to serve the people that live in this area, so we wanted to stay there. It just happened that the building was available, and it just all worked out."

Calvary's Gift operates on all volunteer labor and sells donated clothing, household items, books, toys and more to benefit Calvary Lutheran High School's tuition-assistance program. In its five years of existence, the resale shop has raised more than $300,000 to put toward students' tuition.

"We will be able to take some small household furniture now. We haven't been able to do that here in this smaller space," Engelbrecht said.

The new location also will allow handicapped access, a feature the Washington Street building did not offer.

Calvary's Gift is open for business from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The shop will close at its old location for the last time Dec. 31, then will be closed until it reopens Jan. 7 on Jefferson Street.
