The Fulton Fire Department, Fulton Police Department and state fire marshal have determined a structural fire in Fulton Friday was set intentionally.

Fulton firefighters responded to a residential fire at 723 Vine Street late Friday afternoon.

Fulton Fire Chief Dean Buffington said the home has been vacant for years and was not occupied at the time.

When firefighters arrived, there were flames coming from the south side of the building, and smoke coming from all sides. Buffington said they had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. He added that all of the damage was to the front room of the home.

Since the home has not been occupied in many years, the utilities for the property have not been on. Buffington and his team were not able to conclusively determine the cause of the fire, he said. Buffington called in a fire marshal to assist in the investigation.

"We have both investigative groups checking it out together," Buffington said.

He said the fire department calls the fire marshal in to assist anytime there is a major loss or injury or when they can non conclusively say what caused a fire.
