Lincoln's Henderson, Walls nab all-region honors

Lincoln football players Morris Henderson and Davon Walls have both been selected to the Beyond Sports Network 2014 Division II All-Super Region 4 team that was announced Monday.

Henderson was a second-team selection as a kick returner, while Walls was named to the third team for his play on Lincoln's defensive line.

Any player who was named to his conference's first, second or third teams was eligible for the team. The players selected for all-region recognition were voted upon by the colleges in each super region, with one sports information director and one coach from each program entitled to a vote.

Henderson was one of just 10 players in NCAA Division II to return multiple kickoffs for touchdowns during the 2014 season. Henderson, who led the Great Lakes Valley Conference by averaging 32.0 yards on 11 kick returns, scored on a 91-yard return in the opener against Langston before taking a kickoff 87 yards for a score against McKendree. Henderson's play forced opponents to often try shorter kickoffs, leading to great starting field position for Lincoln all season.

Walls finished 2014 with a team-best 17.5 tackles for loss, ranking fourth in the GLVC and 33rd nationally in that statistic. Walls consistently applied pressure to opposing quarterbacks, finishing the year with 10 sacks, the fourth-most in the conference and the 19th-most in NCAA Division II. Walls also was credited with three quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a blocked kick as well as 43 total tackles, including 30 solo.

This marks the third postseason honor for Henderson and the second for Walls, as both were selected as all-GLVC performers. Henderson was named first team all-GLVC as a kick return specialist and second team all-GLVC as a running back while Walls was an all-GLVC first-team selection.

Beyond Sports Network is a sports media site that features colleges and players from the FCS, Division II, Division III and the NAIA. Earlier this season, Beyond Sports Network honored Henderson as one of its Division II Players of the Week after Henderson broke a Lincoln program record with six rushing touchdowns against Quincy on Sept. 20.

Both Henderson and Walls will now be eligible for the Beyond Sports Network Division II All-American team, which will most likely be announced later this month.
