Nixon traveling today, will miss protest

Organizers of the NAACP's "Journey for Justice" march from Ferguson to Jefferson City have said they want state leaders, including Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, to hear their message of a need for change to end police brutality and racial profiling.

But, when the marchers rally at the Governor's Mansion and Capitol this afternoon, Nixon will be at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. It will be his third stop this week in his tour of Missouri public colleges and universities, where he's been discussing plans "for a strategic, fiscally responsible bond issuance that will make long-overdue investments in higher education" in the state.

On Thursday, Nixon visited the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla; on Wednesday, he spoke in Cape Girardeau. Before Thanksgiving, he visited the University of Missouri in Columbia.
