Boys basketball: Tipton edges New Bloomfield

TIPTON - The Tipton Cardinals hit 12-of-19 free throws in overtime Thursday on their way to a 57-48 victory against the New Bloomfield Wildcats in the semifinals of the Tipton Tournament.

Tipton had hit just one free throw in five attempts in regulation.

The top-seeded Cardinals, who led 26-20 at the half, stretched that advantage to 11 midway through the third quarter before New Bloomfield rallied to tie it at 34 heading into the final period.

The game was tied at 43 at the end of regulation.

Logan Hirst finished with 19 points to pace Tipton.

Brady Wiler led three Wildcats in double figures with 16 points. Grant Nichols added 12, while Derek Shikles chipped in with 10.

Tipton will play in the title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
