JC man gets 30 days for assault

A Jefferson City resident pleaded guilty to an amended charge in a child molestation case from September 2013.

Wayne T. Kurtz Jr., 36, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to 30 days in the Department of Corrections, which is added onto a sentence he is currently serving on an unrelated case.

He had been charged with first-degree child molestation, a Class B felony.

A probable cause statement said that an unidentified female juvenile told deputies that while she was at Kurtz's residence "he smacked her on the buttocks while she was getting out a diaper from underneath the changing table," then asked her: "Do you want me to do that again and lock you in here?"

One witness reported seeing the incident and hearing him ask the question, while another witness reported hearing him ask the question from another room.

Kurtz admitted to the incident, the probable cause statement said.
