Defense stars as Blair Oaks blanks Owensville

OWENSVILLE, Mo. – The Blair Oaks Falcons held the Owensville Dutchmen to negative yards of offense until their final possession of the game and romped to a 42-0 win Friday night.

The Dutchmen managed a paltry minus-24 yards through their first 12 possessions, and with their starters still in against the Blair Oaks freshmen, they finally broke through and racked up 46 yards before time expired.

But the Falcons still held a whopping advantage of 321-22 for the contest, with the bulk of that coming in a first half where Blair Oaks jumped out to a 35-0 lead.

“Our defense did a great job,” Blair Oaks coach Brad Drehle said. “… It’s just fun, things are starting to come together. They’re going to have to carry us for a while, I think.”

Caleb Bischoff racked up four rushing touchdowns for the Falcons, who improved to 2-0 on the season. The senior scored on runs of 2, 13, 40 and 4 yards and had touchdowns on almost every other carry, as he ended up with 83 yards on just nine attempts.

Dominic Jamerson, who had one rushing touchdown, racked up 123 yards on just five carries.

Bischoff got the scoring started at the 7:21 mark of the first quarter, plunging in from 2 yards out.

The second quarter was when things got really busy, as Jamerson had a 3-yard score with 10:56 left before Bischoff scored at the 5:54, 3:37 and 1:40 marks.

In the opening half, Blair Oaks held an advantage in total yardage of 305 to minus-7. The Falcons amassed 246 on the ground on just 25 carries – all of them by either Bischoff, Jamerson or Mikel Drehle, making his first start of the season at quarterback. Drehle also connected on 6-of-13 passes for 59 yards.

“We’re a little ragged still, but we’re getting better,” Brad Drehle said. “We improved this week over last and did some good things at the line of scrimmage, we’ve just got to continue to get better.”

The Dutchmen had 23 carries for those minus-7 yards and misfired on all five of their pass attempts.

The Falcons’ only other score came in the third quarter on a 48-yard punt return by Adam Schell.

Blair Oaks returns to action Friday at Eldon.
