PITTSBURGH (AP) - Josh Harrison hit an RBI triple and scored on Jose Tabata's tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

Harrison had three hits in the Pirates' sixth win in eight games. Tabata, starting in right field for the injured Travis Snider, finished with two hits.

Pirates starter Edinson Volquez was working on a no-hitter before Devin Mesoraco's leadoff single in the seventh. He was charged with one run and three hits in 7 2-3 innings.

Reds right-hander Mike Leake allowed six hits in seven innings in his second consecutive scoreless outing. He pitched 6 2-3 innings in a 1-0 victory over Atlanta last Saturday in his previous start.

Tony Watson (10-1) got the win and Mark Melancon pitched the ninth for his 25th save.

Reds right-hander Jonathan Broxton (4-2) allowed two runs and three hits in the eighth.

ORIOLES 9, TWINS 1

BALTIMORE (AP) - Chris Davis hit his fourth career grand slam, and Baltimore got a dominating pitching performance from Miguel Gonzalez.

Delmon Young also homered for the AL East-leading Orioles, who built an 8-0 lead in the fifth inning against rookie Trevor May (0-4).

Baltimore's fourth win in five games was marred by an injury to first baseman Steve Pearce, who left with a right abdominal strain.

It was the fifth loss in six games for the Twins. Their lone bright spot was a home run by Trevor Plouffe, the 10,000th in franchise history.

Gonzalez (7-7) allowed one runs and four hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

YANKEES 6, BLUE JAYS 3

TORONTO (AP) - Jacoby Ellsbury and Chase Headley homered, leading the Yankees to the win.

Chris Capuano (2-3) pitched 6 1-3 innings in his first win in seven starts since joining New York. The veteran left-hander, who was acquired last month in a trade with Colorado, allowed three runs, two earned, and eight hits.

David Robertson got the final four outs for his 35th save in 38 chances.

Jose Bautista homered and Dioner Navarro had three hits, but the Blue Jays dropped to 7-17 in August. Mark Buehrle (11-9) allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings, leaving the lefty with a 1-13 record and a 6.14 ERA in 20 career starts against New York.

RED SOX 8, RAYS 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Rookie Mookie Betts hit his first career grand slam and Anthony Ranaudo pitched six effective innings, leading Boston to the road win.

After Yoenis Cespedes drove in his second run of the game with a double, Betts connected off Chris Archer (8-7) to cap a five-run second inning that made it 8-0.

Ranaudo (3-0), recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket before the game, gave up three runs and five hits. He has won all three of his big league starts.

Archer allowed eight runs and nine hits over four innings. The Rays have lost nine of 13.

METS 4, PHILLIES 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Jacob deGrom pitched seven crisp innings and the Mets scored the tiebreaking runs when left fielder Grady Sizemore dropped an easy pop fly.

Eric Campbell stole home on a double steal, helping the Mets stay out of the NL East cellar with their 12th victory in 17 games against Philadelphia this year.

The Phillies had won four straight and six of seven. A victory in the series opener would have pushed last-place Philadelphia past New York, but Sizemore's two-out error with the bases loaded in the seventh cost them.

In a matchup of rookie right-handers, deGrom (7-6) allowed four hits and an unearned run. Jenrry Mejia struck out three in the ninth for his 20th save.

David Buchanan went six innings for the Phillies, giving up one run and four hits. Jake Diekman (3-4) got the loss.
