William Woods splits in volleyball

FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods volleyball team split its season-opening tri-match on Tuesday. William Penn defeated the Owls in four sets (25-17, 13-25, 25-23, 25-21) before the Owls took down Central Methodist in five (25-11, 21-25, 18-25, 27-25, 15-10).

Against William Penn, freshman Abbi McKnelly (Jefferson City High School) had 13 kills, three digs and a .385 attack percentage, second best for the Owls.

Fellow freshman Brittney Engelbrecht (Helias High School) had 47 assists for the Owls.

McKnelly had key kills against Central Missouri, tying the fourth set at 23 and 24 and taking the Owls' first lead of the set at 25-24.

McKnelly had 18 kills against the Eagles, and Engelbrecht contributed 45 assists.

The Owls take the floor again this weekend in the Bellevue University Tournament.
