Your Opinion: More to Israel's story

Dear Editor:

I guess the letter writer that wrote concerning how "Israel is killing its victims" might be getting his wish as it could generate additional letters.

There is much more information concerning the formation of the "State of Israel" that should have been included, but when the intent is to bend an opinion towards your point of view, why would you list "all" the data?

About 2000 B.C., Abram, soon to be called Abraham, was told by God, according to Genesis 12: 1 - 3 (KJV), to get out of the country where he lived and go to a place where God would lead him. In verse 2 and 3 we read, "And I (God) will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Abraham had a son, Isaac, who had a son, Jacob, who had 12 sons, of which the 12 tribes of Israel were named.

God told Abram in Genesis 15: 18 (KJV), "In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt (the Nile) unto the great river, the river Euphrates." This established the boundaries of the land that God promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The children of Israel never fully possessed the land, but did possess some of the land. King David and other kings fought many battles with their neighbors and won, most of the time when they trusted in the Lord to lead them.

Like us today they forgot who was actually fighting their battles and started thinking more of themselves than they should have. In addition, they disobeyed what God had told them to do and they paid the consequences of their actions.

God did promise to bring them back to their home land, which started in the mid-1900s and then in 1948 the "State of Israel" was formed with the concurrence of the United Nations and was recognized by our President, Harry Truman. The Israelis are fighting those that don't want them to exist, very humanely.
