Lady Jays claim title at tennis invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Jefferson City Lady Jays opened the tennis season in fine fashion Friday, taking team honors at the Kickapoo Invitational.

Jefferson City opened with an 8-1 win against Camdenton, then was a 5-0 winner against Blue Springs South. The Lady Jays took the title with a 4-1 victory against the host Lady Chiefs.

Paige Smith and Eden Hoogveld both finished 3-0 in singles action for Jefferson City. Other singles winners against Camdenton were Kirsten Schmidt, Athira Nambiar and Maddie Brown. Picking up a singles victory against Blue Springs South was Esther Ruboneka, while Erica Dunn had a win against Kickapoo.

Kelly Raithel and Schmidt were 3-0 in doubles matches in the Invitational. Nambiar and Brown teamed for wins against Camdenton and Blue Springs South, while Hoogveld and Smith had a win against Camdenton.

Jefferson City is back in action Monday against Helias at Washington Park.
