Your Opinion: Lack of confidence dooms amendment

Dear Editor:

Amendment 7 did not pass for several reasons, and it seems our legislators don't read, care or listen to our opinions. I don't pretend to understand their positions or the budget, but it's always the same old thing. There will never be enough money. When these tax increases pass, they just withhold other money out of the budget.

I know people will say that the legislators can't touch this money, and that's true, but the rest of the budget is fair game. Why do you suppose education never has enough; doesn't the lottery supply enough? Well the answer is the manipulation of the budget.

Does MoDOT use this money to maintain state highways and bridges? Maybe and maybe not; almost anything they do they can claim necessary expenditures for that purpose. And then you come to the part about what are the legislators going to do with this new found money.

Again, the general consensus is they waste it on there own pet projects; you support this and I'll fund that, I'll vote for this if you'll vote for that. It's politics as usual, and none of it is done in our interest.

Oh, it looks like it, but it's all party driven and election driven. So why would you vote to give them any more money,? It's government gone amok, it only works at all because it has to to a certain extent.

Now, with that being said, true or not, that's what the people feel, see and think. So when all of you are up there getting the best of this and that for yourself, take out the newspaper and read some of the opinions and you'll find out why these things don't pass. I will never vote for a tax increase until I have confidence in my government.
