DETROIT (AP) - A General Motors program that pays high school students to spruce up parks and schools may spread from Detroit and Flint to Pontiac.
GM product development chief Mark Reuss (ROYS) says he'd like to add Pontiac to next summer's program. No decision has been made.
GM paid 106 students for 10 weeks this summer to work revitalizing 17 parks and 15 schools. Members of the GM Student Corps also were mentored by GM retirees in financial planning, resume writing and other subjects.
The program is in its second year. The Flint area was added this summer.
The student interns celebrated the end if the program on Tuesday.
Reuss says it could also be started in cities with GM factories nationwide someday.
