Falcons push back start time for opener

The heat wave expected for later this week has caused the starting time for at least one area football game to be changed.

The Blair Oaks Falcons, ranked No. 3 in Class 3, will host the Moberly Spartans, tied for No. 10 in Class 4, on Friday at the Falcon Athletic Complex. The game has been moved from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Jefferson City Jays will host the McCluer North Stars on Friday night at Adkins Stadium in a game featuring teams receiving votes in their respective polls. The start time for that game remains 7 p.m.

On Sunday, the Helias Crusaders (No. 2 in Class 4) will host the Nixa Eagles (No. 4 in Class 5) at Adkins Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. and be televised on ESPNU.

Helias head coach Phil Pitts said there have been discussions about the start time, but as of Tuesday, it has not changed. ESPN has told Helias it will televise the game no matter what time it starts, as long as it is played Sunday.
