Post 5 Seniors fall in opener

At regional tournament

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors dropped a 2-1 decision Thursday to Tupelo, Miss., in their opening game of the Mid-South Regional Tournament.

Post 5 got its lone run in the top of the first inning when Cole Distler scored on a single by Trevor Schnieders.

Tupelo tied the game with a run in the second before getting what turned out to be the game-winner in the fifth.

Schnieders had two hits to pace a six-hit Post 5 attack. Post 5 committed three errors in the contest.

Corey Beard took the loss, working the first seven innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks. He struck out three. Sam Bowles worked the eighth, striking out one.

Post 5 is back in action at noon today in the double-elimination tournament.
