Jones dismissed from Tigers

COLUMBIA - Missouri basketball coach Kim Anderson announced Friday he has dismissed sophomore forward Torren Jones from the program for an unspecified violation of team rules.

"We have high standards at the University of Missouri, and after consulting with Mike Alden, I have made the decision to dismiss Torren Jones from our program," Anderson said in a statement. "I am disappointed in Torren's actions and want to be very clear about the culture of accountability we are building within our program. It's a privilege to wear the University of Missouri uniform, and we will represent our university and our state with great integrity."

The 6-foot-8, 235-pound Jones was a top-150 recruit out of Chandler, Ariz. He played at Basha High School his first three years of high school and at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., his senior year.

Jones played 8.1 minutes per game his first year at Missouri, averaging 2.1 points and 2.3 rebounds. He had four blocks and 12 steals on the season, while shooting 53.5 percent from the field.

He only scored in four of his first 21 games as a Tiger but played a bigger role toward the end of the season, scoring in all but two of Missouri's final 14 games, including a season-high eight points against Tennessee. Jones grabbed 11 rebounds in a 70-68 win against Auburn in January.

Jones averaged 19.6 points and 10.6 rebounds as a junior in high school and received all-state honors each of his seasons in Arizona. He averaged 11 points for his senior-year team, which finished ranked in the top 20 nationally by ESPN.
